Instagram Experiences Global Outage: Users Encounter Search and Technical Issues

On March 17, 2025, Instagram users worldwide experienced significant disruptions, particularly with the platform’s search functionality. While feeds, profiles, and stories continued to load, the search feature became unresponsive, and other technical glitches were reported. These issues began around 7 PM GMT (3 PM Eastern Time), as noted by outage tracking service Down Detector.

Despite the problems on Instagram, other services owned by Meta, such as Facebook and WhatsApp, appeared to function normally during this period. The outage seemed to affect users globally, with reports indicating widespread difficulties accessing certain features of the app.

Users took to other social media platforms to express their frustrations and seek information. One Reddit user noted, “Unable to see likes/notifications/etc on my personal and business account. Also unable to view reels or see metrics on my posts.”

As of now, Instagram has not released an official statement regarding the cause of the outage or provided a timeline for resolution. Users experiencing issues are advised to monitor official Instagram channels for updates and consider using alternative methods to access essential features until normal service resumes.
